POKOTABI / Akabei
和食居酒屋 赤兵衛 神田
Located near Kanda Station, Japanese izakaya Akabei offers tender signature rolled dashi omelets, binchotan-grilled yakitori, sashimi assortments, fried dishes, and chilled Inaniwa udon.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
A gentle touch of the chopsticks releases savory dashi broth from the signature torokeru dashimaki at Akabei. Offered in its original style infused with mild white dashi or in a richer version with spicy mentaiko and melted cheese, this delicate rolled omelet is well proportioned for sharing across the table.
The balanced selection of seafood and skewered meats makes ordering effortless. Sashimi platters offer a colorful spread to compare the seasonal catches of the day. Over binchotan charcoal, skewers such as juicy chicken thigh, tender breast meat, and softly textured liver are seasoned and grilled to coax out their best flavors alongside a drink.
Traditional izakaya favorites round out the savory plates: slow-simmered beef or pork offal, fragrant grilled shishamo smelt, crisp fried oysters, and thick-cut ham cutlets. At the end of the evening, cold Inaniwa udon provides a refreshing, slippery finish that settles the palate.
Situated on the 2th floor, the interior includes counter seats, conventional tables, and private dining rooms, accommodating casual solo drinks after work as well as larger group gatherings. Draft beer, various highballs, and Japanese drinks match the food cleanly, and with Friday hours extending to 2:00 late into the night, it serves as a reliable stop for a late drink.
